Volunteer

Since 1966, the Friends of the Library of Windham have depended on hundreds of volunteers that are dedicated to encouraging greater use of the Nesmith Library and its many services.  It is our volunteers that have made the Friends the successful organization that it is today.  The Friends have a lot of fun, while giving back to our wonderful community, and volunteering is a great way to meet people!

We invite you to join us, as a Friend, and encourage you to contact us.  We have a variety of volunteer opportunities that are available!  Join the Friends of the Library Board
The Friends are always growing and are always looking for fellow townspeople, like you, to serve on our board and committees.  Our Friends’ Board is made up of a group of enthusiastic members who meet once a month (September thru May) to help plan the Friends’ annual events including the Strawberry Festival and Book Fair!  For more information please contact Pam Skwiot.

Become a Friends Member
To become a member of the Friends of the Library of Windham, the Friends ask for an annual membership fee, in order to support our work with the Nesmith Library and the Windham Community.  The membership fee is tax deductible and structured like a donation. Friends’ members receive our quarterly newsletter and are entitled to priority registration for many Friends’ sponsored events. We can only achieve our goals with your support!  To become a member please visit our membership tab.

Strawberry Festival and Book Fair
The Strawberry Festival and Book Fair is Windham’s largest community event and it takes lots and lots of volunteers to make it happen!  The Friends need volunteers to help out on numerous fronts including baking biscuits, cutting strawberries, painting children’s faces, directing traffic, and the list goes on and on. Each year, hundreds of individuals from our community make the Strawberry Festival possible for the thousands that attend the event. Volunteers can help in advance of the Festival or on the day of the Festival. No contribution of your time or talent is too small, and we have roles for people of all ages! For students, volunteering is a great way to complete your community service hour requirements.  To become a Strawberry Festival and Book Fair volunteer please e-mail strawberryfestival@flowwindham.org.

Book Sales
Help sort and organize donated books and materials for our book sales. Sorting can be done anytime that the library is open for business and can be done alone or with a friend.  You can donate an hour a month or an hour a week!  It is a great way to spend time with old friends, meet new people, get some exercise, and help out a good cause!

Donate Books
Through May 2nd, the Friends welcome donations of  new and gently used books including books on tape, CDs, DVD's, games, puzzles, and software for our ongoing book sales and annual Book Fairs.  Your donations can be dropped off at the Nesmith Library during regular business hours. Please email books@flowwindham.org if you would like to get involved.
